A return to film.

Closup of Nikon film camera.

Since March 2020, I have only used my Nikon camera a few times. Mostly to take family photos last year, after making my way back to the East Coast. Once upon a time, only a handful of days would pass between tapping the shutter button to create new art.

The first year of the pandemic and a lack of travel certainly played a role. I figured once the world began reopening, my desire to photograph the great outdoors would swiftly return. For some reason, that was not the case. And I honestly don’t know why.

When I first fell in love with photography as a teenager, my trusty manual film camera was always tucked into a purse or backpack. Easily accessible whenever inspiration or adolescent antics needed to be documented. Finally seeing the photos was always a delight, after waiting weeks to use the entire roll and develop the film. Wondering how they turned out while working on the next set.

Reminiscing where my photography journey began, I recently decided to purchase an old Nikon FM10 film camera with a 50mm lens. Thanks to nostalgia, I am well into using the first roll of film.

Time will tell how well the photos come out. I will say, capturing them feels like visiting an old friend.
